Hi, my name is Dave Fenton and I’m a drop shipping virgin.
Right that’s that over with. This blog is my attempt at documenting my journey from drop shipping novice to hopefully successful on-line entrepreneur. I’m intending it to be a true reflection of my journey, warts and all. For those that know me I’m a plain talking Yorkshireman so I don’t believe in covering up the warts!
Why do I want to become an on-line entrepreneur?
A bit of background about me first. I’m a 55 year old professional software developer and I’ve been in the digital industry most of my working life, so at least 30 years. I can remember the days before PC’s and the internet when mobile technology meant computing power you could put in the back of a transit van. Nowadays your wrist watch contains more computing power.
For most of my adult life I’ve paid into a pension plan but due to the crap performance of the funds my pension pot is, shall we say, not what it needs to be. Luckily I’ve a wife who’s paid into her teacher’s’ pension for a similar amount of time and I’ll be able to live off her into our retirement. For several years we’ve realised that if we wanted to travel the World in the style we’ve become accustomed to into our dotage we’d need to bolster our retirement income. We’ve had several ideas around investing in property etc. but none that appealed and I’d reconciled myself to working into my 70’s.
Perhaps I should also mention that we love to travel the World and never saw ourselves retiring to the English suburbs. We always wanted to retire to the mountains somewhere and see the wonders of the World we live in, something we missed out on in our youth.
Why Drop Shipping?
This leads neatly, if not elegantly into how we stumbled across the drop shipping idea. After a recent trip to Thailand I happened upon a travel podcast and blog by a guy, Johnny FD . He and his guests were talking about concepts I’d never heard of such as digital nomads, 4-hour work week and drop shipping. They talked about earning a living from multiple income streams in a location independent manner, all of which was appealing to me. Johnny is a vocal advocate of a drop shipping method by a guy called Anton Kraly. The more I heard, the more I thought it was just what I needed.
I duly signed up for Anton’s course, it’s not cheap but in the long run I believe it will pay for itself many times over (I hope!).
I’ve been wanting to get myself into blogging for a while now and this course and journey towards profitability seemed like a good reason to start, time will tell.
